Our Story
Since 2011, our family owned and operated a horse boarding business in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach, VA. We typically housed around 20 horses and cleaned their stalls and fields daily. We began a manure pile on the backside of our property, and it grew exponentially over the years.
In 2023, we relocated to Shawboro, NC with all of our horses and began our compost pile immediately. Now that it’s been rotated for 6 months, we are ready to share it with you.
Manure management is one of the biggest challenges for most horse owners, and we would like to inspire other horse boarding facilities to recycle their compost back to their local community. Knowing the aged compost is wonderful for gardens and soil restoration, we are passionate about getting it in to the hands of as many people as possible.

At It Happens Compost, we pride ourselves in reusing and recycling. After rotating our manure strategically over the years, it is fully aged and ready to be utilized in gardens or landscaping. We offer both truckloads and bagged compost. And if you notice… our bags are simply repurposed 50lb horse feed bags.
But don’t worry, if the 50lb bags are too heavy for you, we also offer smaller options!
We want to give our customers consistent and quality compost. Working towards constantly bettering our product is one of our top priorities.
